Typical bands: frozen −18 to −30°C (seafood, meat), chilled 0 to +10°C (fruit, dairy), controlled +15 to +25°C (pharma, chemicals). Common sizes are 20′ (~28 m³) and 40′ (~67.5 m³); most units regulate −30 to +30°C. Handling details matter: pre-cool the cargo, stack to keep air channels clear, and target 70–80% fill rather than blocking the supply air. After moving the box, let it sit ≥2 hours before powering on. The unit relies on external power (vessel/terminal/truck genset) and uses controllers/data loggers for traceability. Costs go beyond base ocean freight: expect a reefer surcharge, port power and THC, storage/cleaning, truck genset rental and fuel, plus optional monitoring.
