“Connecting people”, an advertising slogan we are all too familiar with shows that technology innovation reflects exactly what humans need. However, advancement in technology doesn’t just happen. Be curious, keep exploring, and dare to create are three elements for innovation, which is the beginning of the realization of our imagination about the future. If it weren’t for the continuous desire of scientists to push the limits of physics for the past few decades, we wouldn’t see continuous advancement in the semiconductor industry. Nor could we witness the emergence of the latest technologies that drive the world towards an intelligent and convenient future. Just like C.Y. Lu, President of Macronix said in the cover story, he is obsessed with the joy of discovery. He stays curious about the unknowns, whether doing research or developing cutting-edge technology. His passion for knowledge becomes a key momentum for him to march forward and realize his values to the world. The common of Lu and the other interviewees of this issue is that they all have the passion of exploring in the diverse fields and the courage to take the risks and turn into opportunities. It is exactly this kind of fearlessness and audacity that makes it possible for someone to enjoy the fruit of years of hard work and the wisdom accumulated over a long time to keep creating new values and opening new horizons for a smarter world.

盧 志 遠

迷戀發現的快樂 喜做有意思的事 1999 年盧志遠加入旺宏,擔任資深執行顧問及科技總監後,2003 年轉任 營運長,2007 年升任總經理至今。他致力於提升旺宏創新非揮發性記憶 體的研發技術與製造能力,成果斐然,將旺宏電子帶領成為世界級的領 導廠商。 After joining Macronix in 1999, C.Y. Lu first served as the senior executive consultant and technical director, and later became the Chief Operation Officer (COO) in 2003. By 2007, he got promoted again and continued to lead the company as its president. All these years, he has been dedicated to taking Macronix’ s innovation capability to the next level, both on R&D and manufacturing of non-volatile memory (NVM), and his hard work paid off. Macronix is now the leading manufacturer in the global NVM industry.

勇闖公職的快意人生 成立於 1970 年的工業局,即將在明(2020)年邁向創立半世紀的大關。 對照現今工業局的掌門人—呂正華局長的資歷,從出任工業局電子資訊 組組長算起,他在工業局服務的時間也將滿 12 年。與工業局一同成長的 呂正華,也在這一旬時間創造了無限精彩。呂正華的仕途算是比較年輕 就擔任局長職務,但會走上公職,卻完全不在他既定的規劃中。 The Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) was established in 1970 and will be half a century old in 2020. Jang-Hwa (Richard) Leu, the Director-General , has worked almost 12 years and grown with IDB since his position as the Director of Information Technology Industries Division and accomplished many great achievements. He was appointed as the Director-General at a rather young age, but becoming a civil servant was never a part of his original plan for life.

劉 鈞

理性與感性兼容 領工業電腦邁向軟硬整合 說起話來淘淘不絕的劉鈞,談到智慧科技時他理性論述技術更分析產業; 聊起至親家人轉而語露溫暖;講到愛看的書與電影更流露出些許文青樣, 或許就是這種兼具理性與感性的特質,讓他所創辦的凌華科技,得以成 為引領台灣產業邁向軟硬整合的要角。 When Jim Liu, President of ADLINK, talked about smart technology, he elaborated detailed technical discourse and precise industry analysis passionately; while talking about family, he manifested warmth and loving quality; and when he talked about books and movies, he showed characteristics of an art enthusiast. 然是資訊工程背景出身,但劉鈞熱愛 閱讀文史哲類書籍,德國哲學家卡爾

雅斯貝爾斯所著《悲劇的超越》,是他年輕 時捧讀的書;而讓他印象最深刻的電影,是 柔和現實與超現實的浪漫喜劇《安妮霍爾》 (Annie Hall)。所學與興趣的南轅北轍,造 就劉鈞兼具理性與感性的特質,讓劉鈞在資 訊科技產業 30 多年,可以深入軟體開發殿 堂,又能隨時跳出程式世界與人連結互動, 帶領凌華成為頂尖的智慧工業電腦大廠。

瞄準利基市場投入創業 「在清華大學念研究所時,我很享受桌上 堆滿書,然後埋頭做研究的感覺。」劉鈞回 憶,一開始,他期許自己成為一個頂尖工程 師,可以專研軟體開發。但取得碩士學位並 在資策會服務幾年後,他發現相較於埋首看 書撰寫程式,自己似乎更愛與人互動。

眼看著身邊陸續有人投入創業,當時剛升 格為父親的劉鈞也鼓起勇氣創辦凌華,而當 時在航空公司任職的太太倪寒芬,也憑著外 文系所練就的語言能力及工作中累積的應對 技巧,為凌華拓展海外客戶增添一大助力, 夫妻倆的創業之路也就此展開。

劉鈞認為人生在世就短短幾十 年,不要只做容易的事,而是 要做有意義的事。

重視人才與研發 當時在台灣創業,不是以硬體為主,就是 走純軟體,但是劉鈞挑了一條不一樣的路 專 注於生產硬體領域的工業電腦,同時在硬體 中加上軟體功能作為賣點。「其實當時我不 太懂工業電腦,但創業不久就拿到了歐洲訂 單,可說是運氣很好。」劉鈞話說的謙虛, 但換個角度看,他掌握到產業自動化利基市 場的成長趨勢,為工業電腦開發中介軟體, 讓客戶更容易在硬體上開發應用程式;而在 業務開發上,他也因為擅於掌握機會、樂於 聆聽客戶需求,在訂單的成交上往往不負所 託、業績斐然。

隨著資訊科技推陳出新,凌華營運一路成 長,公司人才需求孔急,因此在 2005 年推 動公司上市,藉此找到更多更好的人才。劉 鈞認為,「人才」是科技業成長的核心,尤 其凌華一路從自動化走到智慧化,非常重視 創新與研發,人才著實不可或缺。

擁有風險承擔能力 除了重視人才外,劉鈞也是一個具備高 「Risk Taking」(風險承擔)能力的人。「如 果以我現在的眼光回去看 1995 年,我應該 不會選擇創業。」劉鈞笑著說,自己當年完 全沒有風險的觀念,但現在經營企業,必須 更懂得計算風險。然而,為了替公司甚至世 界開創更多可能性,研發資金卻是劉鈞心甘 情願承擔的風險。凌華每年投入近 14% 的 營收在技術研發上,遠遠高於其他台灣科技 業的研發投入。

One time, Maggie was invited to the headquarters in Germany to receive an award on behalf of the entire team of Henkel Taiwan. She shared her motto in her acceptance speech - never give up.
